“Thatcher has his best year since leaving the WWE, with a return to the Makabe feud and a return to WXW. he’s finally escaped NOAH hell and feels like he’s back to being Thatcher. “ ~ Padraig
“”Since his release from the fed, Tim has had a quietly brilliant several years, underlooked for normal Thatcher reasons of not having social media, and also because literally only I watched Pro Wrestling Noah in the States. This past year he had his final match with Daniel Makabe, multiple Bloodsport bouts, and quite a few fun indie exhibitions. When he is wrestling, he is one of the best in the world” ~ Squill
“Thatch spent a lot of his 2024 giving people great matches. Roddy at Prestige, Woods at Bloodsport, and Abe at wXw are the highlights. But while he had great consistency, his peak comes in the DEAN~!! main event against Makabe. It’s a beautiful match, two old foes struggling one last time against each other. Tim works the big heel role well, and Makabe has to work to overcome him. It’s so much fun watching them run it back one more time, and you can really feel the respect between them both during the match and after it. Thatcher is one of the best wrestlers alive right now and his ability to make everyone look great is one of his strongest traits.” ~ Andy/Shrimp
“Thatcher was as consistent a wrestler you could find in 2024. He had the same great selling and facial expressions he’s had for years. He brought the same violent offense that can alternate between ferocious and suffocating that he’s had for years. It would be easy to see these qualities as boring, but Thatcher was one of the few sure things in 2024 wrestling and every chance to see him do his thing was worth it.” ~ Conor S.

“Eddie Kingston got Injured quite early in the year and that sucks but what we did get from Eddie this year was still great. In the match Eddie got injured he gave Gabe Kidd his career match, he delivered one of the emotional moments of the year in him losing the ROH world title to mark briscoe. And concludes his feud with the American dragon and having perhaps the duo’s best match. I hope the Mad king heals up and is back on this list next year.” ~ Padraig
“A big “what if” case, as the majority of the 5 months he wrestled in were genuinely great, especially the triple crown run. Get well soon.” ~ Stevan S.
“I don’t care that Eddie missed more than half the year. I don’t care that he did a little too much pillars cosplaying at times. I don’t care that they only made the Continental belt so he could hold a theoretical Triple Crown. What we got from Eddie in the first half of 2024 is nothing short of great. The peaks this man had are insane. Let me start off on the Bryan Keith match. It is well known BK is a special little guy for me, and as someone who knows that both of these dudes share my love of kings road, even I didn’t expect the match we got. What could have been a dominant win for Eddie on his way to Bryan with a solid showing for BK ended up being a full, back and forth, actual fucking match. And it was everything I want in wrestling. Build, consistency, sick ass moves. The 1-2-3 punch of even getting that match, to Eddie calling Schiavone down, to the Bryan story beat with BK, it did so many things in such a short span. I talk about that Dragon match in another guys write up (MOTY btw) but Eddie has another genuine all timer in him. On offense as the de-facto heel for Mark Briscoe winning the ROH Title. Man, Eddie sure does know how to work an emotionally impactful match huh? Eddie plays the perfect mountain for Mark to climb here, almost unintentionally paying off the months of “AJPW cosplayer” accusations by tapping the fuck in to brawler Eddie. He gets mean, he gets violent, and when the bell rings, he is back to being the realest wrestler in the world. It’s a great moment at the end of a classic, and it’s all thanks to Eddies god-tier knowledge of how to play emotion in pro wrestling.” ~ Andy/Shrimp
“The thing about Eddie Kingston’s year is that he was maybe the best wrestler for a little over a third of the year. The highlights are obvious––the Bryan match at Revolution, the Mark Briscoe title switch––but what really made his year are the lower level outings against guys like Trent Beretta and a not-yet-signed Bryan Keith. Everything the Mad King touched turned to gold, and his absence was noticeable throughout the rest of the year. Get well, King.” ~ Stephen W.

“the guy CMLL is obviously grooming to be mistico successor, and while he’s not there yet you can see why CMLL see him as the next guy. Given the talent he’s often working with, it would be hard for Dorada to not have great matches. But in these matches he showcases how good he is. Immensely fun offense.” ~ Padraig
“Explodes into all of his comebacks and has ridiculous control of his body in the air. I tend to forget how young he is and the scary potential he possesses. “ ~ Stevan S
“I’m a Dorada “hater” in the sense I think he gets talked up as this elite wrestler already when he’s more of a premium raw prospect. Without question, he has the tools, can do all the moves, isn’t afraid of bumping in certain situations. But he’s not someone that I think has put it all together quite yet. He’s not super sympathetic as a babyface since he wrestles like a quasi-superhero at times. But man, he knows how and when to get his shit in and he has such good shit. If he just does this for the next handful of years, he probably always makes the list because I love dudes who know how to fit their cool shit into CMLL trios, the greatest match structure known to man. If he never takes that step to being sympathetic or gaining an edge, it would be disappointing but we would still be looking at a darn fine wrestler.” ~ Sam DiMascio
“Real-life Spider-Man. Wonder how he would have faired in that cage match with Randy Savage. “ ~ Stephen W.
“The best high flier in the world, just truly spectacular.” ~ Dan Rice
“Dorada continues his rise as one of CMLL’s top stars, with 2024 being his first full year under his new mask. One of the best technicos on the main event trios rotation throughout the year and could have ranked even closer to the top spot had he gotten more high profile singles matches. There’s room for that in the years to follow though, and with CMLL talent getting more bookings on MLW and AEW/ROH recently, Dorada is a name to keep an eye out as a perennial contender for wrestler of the year.” ~ Greed

“b-b-but he only had 4 matches? Shut up its sting. And he rules. No wrestler ruled more than sting this year. “ ~ Padraig
“All hits, no misses. Sting forever. “ ~ Stevan S.
“If pro wrestling is all about emotion, then 2024 might have given us the best match ever. “Sting Final Bye-Bye” didn’t just make me feel a lot, it made me believe. For a split second, pro wrestling wasn’t fake. It was all real. Sting, who has given this business so much of himself, finally being repaid by it in the form of the most beautiful wrestling send off anyone can ask for. God bless Darby and the Bucks for the bumps and the stooging but this match isn’t about mechanics, it’s about love. Love of the game, love of a tag partner, love of the fans. We are so lucky we got to live in this moment of love together. Something that might never happen at the same level of importance again. And the craziest part is that the couple months before that match are actually awesome too. Sting only has 3 matches last year and they all bang. Getting gold out of working young guys like Hobbs, Soup, Bill, and Ricky leading into the big one is just such a blast to watch. Two really fun matches, one all time classic, and the weight of a career that shoots this 2 month run into legendary status.” ~ Andy/Shrimp
“Sting may not have wrestled very many times in 2024, but every time he did I wanted to pound my fists against my chest and jump off of some shit. The Sting and Darby Allin tag team was one of the best things in wrestling while it existed, and the retirement match will go down as one of the great wrestling spectacles. Sting ended his career about as well as anyone in his position ever has, and being able to watch that final run was one of the truly special things in 2024 wrestling.” ~ Conor S.
“Shoutout to the fucking GOAT. Sting finished one of the greatest careers in wrestling history with a hell of a run, culminating in a final match that transcends star ratings. The Sting Final Bye Bye can only be described in screams and shouts and jumps around the room. It is one of the greatest moments not just in AEW but anywhere in wrestling, and I will never forget watching it. Enjoy retirement, king.” ~ Chris Gibbons

“I don’t even know if I like Abe but I voted for him. That Thatcher match is so stinking good and it helped me see a glimmer of a slightly different Abe. A guy with a wackiness that comes closer to matching Thatcher than an amped-up Sawa.” ~ Sam DiMascio
“So I didn’t keep up with the Astronauts as much in 2024, but that might have actually boosted Fuminori Abe’s case here. Just looking at his peaks, there is so much to love. The Hikaru Sato match in March, the random Roddy match from DPW Limit Break, the wXw matches with Thatcher and Mad Dog. Abe’s year is full of one-off bangers that steal the show on every card he’s on. His Bloodsport outings too are both very good, with his fellow space boy Nomura on Mania weekend and with Yu Iizuka at Bushido. The American touring act for Abe may be predictable, but he wrestles with such charm and whimsy that even his lesser outings are still a blast to watch. Hoping 2025 brings more glory to the Astronauts again, but I’m glad Abe got to use 2024 to have a shockingly fun and consistent year.” ~ Andy/Shrimp

“As polarizing as ever, but just enough fun, lower stakes stuff to crack my list.” ~ Stevan S.
“Ospreay discourse remains some of the most tedious of all online wrestling discussions. As if to final be done with it, “The Billy Goat” doubled down with the most Ospreay year possible. His strengths and weaknesses all turned up to 11.
His match with Danielson proved, that while they are not the be-all-end-all, if you are in the ring with someone who knows how to work with it, actually having a strong crowd connection, being very athletic, having moves that look cool and being good at executing them, are pretty good tools for a pro-wrestler to have.
On the flip side, he remained obsessed with overly choreographed sequences of reversals and when given similarly inclined opponents, seemed incapable of editing down his ideas. He also, inevitably, got his own “why am I so violent ??” storyline, around the Tiger Driver, this year.
A man who only knows how to be, who he is. “ ~ Nick Yeoman
“I mean, if we are talking quantity, Will Ospreay probably did more individual cool things than anyone else last year. No one makes the crowd go “WOW” like Billy and that’s gotta be worth something right?” ~ Andy/Shrimp
“One thing was fully realized in Wrestling Year 2024; Will Ospreay is as much of an AJ Styles fan as the rest of us. His shift from the NJPW top foreigner to a remarkably compact and creative weekly TV performer with occasional sprinkles of overindulgent, masturbatory, Dragonball-like steeze epics is a stroke of genius. He has been crucial in establishing AEW as a promotion on the rebound in 2025 and beyond. AEW fans, we have our QB1. so treat him well “ ~ L.C. Moe
“In facets of timing and execution, the most dynamic and explosive wrestler in the world today while showing himself to be a hell of a heroic, all-conquering babyface archetype so far in his AEW tenure. I have a hard time penalizing him for certain structural criticisms when almost every wrestler who will get a lot of votes in this poll have similar or worse issues there. He’s adopted an ethos of all killer, no filler in TV matches, best exemplified by his run in the Continental Classic. Many of his big matches from last year resonate with me because of their ambition, not in spite of it and while he might do too much, he does too much with plenty of soul, emotion, and gravitas to show for it.” ~ Flae

“the best KO-D openweight championship run since Akiyama. Aoki is a must watch for me. Someone whose matches were all about the little details, the way every move, every hold felt like a struggle. Stand out performances against Yuki Ueno and hashimoto” ~ Padraig
“Aoki’s run in late Summer/Autumn was stellar. From the title run to every build up tag, the man made every single thing matter. I just wish we got more of it. “ ~ Stevan S.
“For how limited my scope of Aoki was in 2024, it is shocking how much he stuck with me. The Yuki Ueno match from August blew me away, the sense of struggle Aoki brings to everything he does is so enjoyable. That match had each guy play their part perfectly, and when Shinya won it felt cathartic in a way. Seeing one dude out-wrestle another and win for it is just awesome. Throw in the sick ass riffing with Hashimoto and the perfectly balanced grappling-meets-bombfest with HARASHIMA and it’s hard to deny Aoki’s year. Literally no one can get me to bite on the little things like he does, the tension and excitement I feel from his work bell to bell was unmatched in 2024.” ~ Andy/Shrimp
“Aoki’s 2024 was not only a year with great matches, but it was a culmination of his pro wrestling career up to this point. In DDT Aoki had been both a different style fight attaction and a fish out of water comedy act, and that’s exactly how he started out the year with comedy matches and an awesome match with Chihiro Hasimoto. But by the end of the year he would decimate the DDT main event scene as one of the most unique monster champions in all of wrestling. Few wrestlers this year were able to make crowds gasp for grappling exchanges and pins like Aoki. He felt indestructible in a way no other wrestler did.” ~ Conor S.
“Aoki seems to really like to hurt people. That is the secret to pro wrestling. Don’t tell Barnett, because I don’t want him whining on twitter, but Aoki is maybe the best MMA fighter turned pro wrestler ever.” ~ Dan Rice

But he was more than rock solid in his role as Second In Command for most of the year.
